mcp-server-clickup

MCP.Pizza Chef: noah-vh

The mcp-server-clickup is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to integrate ClickUp's note-taking capabilities into AI workflows. It provides a simple note storage system accessible through a custom note:// URI scheme, allowing individual notes to be managed with metadata such as name, description, and plain text content. The server supports a summarization prompt that generates concise or detailed summaries of all stored notes, enhancing information retrieval. Additionally, it offers an add-note tool to create new notes dynamically, updating the server state and notifying connected clients of changes. This server facilitates seamless interaction between AI models and ClickUp notes, enabling efficient note management and contextual summarization within AI-enhanced environments.

uv --directory C:\Users\noahv\Documents\GitHub\clickup-operator run clickup-operator

Components

Resources

The server implements a simple note storage system with:

  • Custom note:// URI scheme for accessing individual notes
  • Each note resource has a name, description and text/plain mimetype

Prompts

The server provides a single prompt:

  • summarize-notes: Creates summaries of all stored notes
    • Optional "style" argument to control detail level (brief/detailed)
    • Generates prompt combining all current notes with style preference

Tools

The server implements one tool:

  • add-note: Adds a new note to the server
    • Takes "name" and "content" as required string arguments
    • Updates server state and notifies clients of resource changes

Configuration

[TODO: Add configuration details specific to your implementation]

Quickstart

Install

Claude Desktop

On MacOS: ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json On Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Development/Unpublished Servers Configuration ``` "mcpServers": { "clickup-operator": { "command": "uv", "args": [ "--directory", "C:\Users\noahv\Documents\GitHub\create-python-server\clickup-operator", "run", "clickup-operator" ] } } ```
Published Servers Configuration ``` "mcpServers": { "clickup-operator": { "command": "uvx", "args": [ "clickup-operator" ] } } ```

Development

Building and Publishing

To prepare the package for distribution:

  1. Sync dependencies and update lockfile:
uv sync
  1. Build package distributions:
uv build

This will create source and wheel distributions in the dist/ directory.

  1. Publish to PyPI:
uv publish

Note: You'll need to set PyPI credentials via environment variables or command flags:

  • Token: --token or UV_PUBLISH_TOKEN
  • Or username/password: --username/UV_PUBLISH_USERNAME and --password/UV_PUBLISH_PASSWORD

Debugging

Since MCP servers run over stdio, debugging can be challenging. For the best debugging experience, we strongly recommend using the MCP Inspector.

You can launch the MCP Inspector via npm with this command:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector uv --directory C:\Users\noahv\Documents\GitHub\create-python-server\clickup-operator run clickup-operator

Upon launching, the Inspector will display a URL that you can access in your browser to begin debugging.

mcp-server-clickup FAQ

How do I add a new note using the mcp-server-clickup?
Use the add-note tool with 'name' and 'content' string arguments to create a new note, which updates the server state and notifies clients.
What is the note:// URI scheme used for?
It provides a custom URI format to access individual notes directly within the MCP environment, facilitating easy reference and retrieval.
Can I customize the summary detail level?
Yes, the summarize-notes prompt accepts an optional 'style' argument to generate either brief or detailed summaries of all stored notes.
How does the server notify clients of changes?
When notes are added or updated, the server sends notifications to connected clients about resource changes to keep context synchronized.
Is there support for different content types in notes?
Currently, notes use the text/plain mimetype for content, focusing on plain text note storage and summarization.
How do I start the mcp-server-clickup?
Run the server using the provided command, e.g., 'uv --directory <path> run clickup-operator', to launch the MCP server instance.
Does the server support integration with multiple AI models?
Yes, it is designed to work with various LLM providers like OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini through the MCP protocol.
Are there configuration options available?
Configuration details are to be added, but the server is expected to support customization for deployment and integration needs.
